Fluids leaking from vehicles onto our streets can cause water pollution. When it rains, automotive fluids on our roadways flow down the storm drains. These storm drains to carry the polluted water to our local waterways.
According to the City Ordinance, each property owner shall keep the drainage channels and/or drainage and floodway easements traversing or adjacent to his property clean and free of debris, silt, and any other substance.
When water runs off of your yard, pet waste can wash down the storm drains and go untreated into streams, creeks, and lakes. This waste contains harmful bacteria which is unhealthy for all wildlife and people.
Trash that blocks storm drains can cause street flooding. Keep trash out of the street by doing these simple things such as, reduce the number of bottles and plastic bags you use and utilizing reusable water bottles.
Fertilizer and Pesticides contain chemicals that are harmful to aquatic life and can cause problems for people. When these wash off of your lawn they can go directly down a storm drain and to our local waterways.
