Lanes of major streets in Garland are closed near Interstate 635 as part of the LBJ East project.
The LBJ East project will widen and improve I-635 between Central Expressway and Interstate 30 – the Garland area’s busiest traffic corridor. The rebuild of the I-635/I-30 interchange is a major component of the ongoing $1.7 billion project.
Various lanes in both directions of Garland Avenue and Oates Road are closed near I-635 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 30. The right lane of eastbound Walnut Hill Lane is closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 31. Walnut Hill transitions into Kingsley Road once motorists cross I-635 and enter Garland.
The exit from eastbound I-635 to Garland Avenue (Garland Road in Dallas) will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. The exit from westbound I-635 to Central Expressway will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. the exit from westbound I-635 to Jupiter Road and Kingsley Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.
The connector from southbound I-635 to eastbound I-30 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. For the full 11 miles of the project, various lanes along both directions of I-635 are closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Sunday, Nov. 1. Various lanes of I-30 near the interchange are closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Sunday, Nov. 1.
Also near the interchange, the Northwest Drive entrance ramp to westbound I-30 and the eastbound I-30 exit to Northwest Drive have been closed permanently. The I-30 HOV lane is closed between Northwest Drive on the Garland side of I-635 and Jim Miller Road in Dallas. I-30 HOV lanes between Jim Miller Road and downtown Dallas remain open. The HOV/Express managed toll lanes between Oates Drive and TI Boulevard also remain closed until the project is completed. The rebuilt tolled managed lanes will have shoulders and be separated from the main lanes by concrete barriers. A new traffic pattern for both directions of Skillman Street at I-635 took effect recently. Pay attention to signage designating new lane configurations.
