Did you know that every Royal Canadian Mounted Police hat is made here in Garland? The Mounties are fully aware and on Thursday, Oct. 19, sent one of their own to the Dorfman Milano hat factory in Garland to observe the process firsthand.
Mayor Scott LeMay and Dorfman Milano Senior Vice President Frank Kinney hosted RCMP Cpl. Marie-Michele Ouimet and other Canadian officials on a tour of the factory.
"It was a pleasure to see the process of manufacturing the iconic RCMP hats from start to finish," said Cpl. Ouimet, whose assignments have included cybersecurity and protective service for diplomats during her career with Canada's federal police force. "It is clear that they understand the importance of the bilateral U.S. and Canadian Partnership, including close collaboration on trade, security and defense, and law enforcement issues."
Cpl. Ouimet visited Austin and Dallas for a series of security meetings and to profile the strong United States-Canada Defense Partnership. Also touring Garland were representatives of the Dallas office of the Consulate General of Canada and a member of the United States Marshal’s Service.
Following the mid-morning tour, the Mayor led the visiting officials Downtown for a more literal taste of Garland, barbecue from Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery.
